Golf Course Profiles
Maastricht International Golf, Maastricht, The Netherlands"These days we are hosting the Dutch PGA Championships in Maastricht. All the pro's are full of praise for design and greenkeeping... Course record has been set yesterday on 67. Two eagles on hole 11!" Egbert MULDER, CEO, GMG Golf Management Group"The more you play the golf course the better you will play it. The course looks very mature." Richard ECCLES"Great golf course, the more you play it, the better it gets." John BOERDONK"Nice looking golf course, you can play aggressive but also save. It's difficult to get the ball close to the flag." He has followed the design brief he was given and yet Steve has been both determined and firm in his knowledge and experience of how to design and construct the very best golf course whilst also being flexible and approachable in discussion. A true professional." Egbert MULDER, GMG Golf Management Group Golf clubs, golf shoes, passport! When playing Maastricht International Golf you may need your passport for more than just the flight there! Steve Marnoch was the lead architect, initially commencing the project as part of G&M Ltd, and completing as golfmarnoch, it was also designed and supervised with Dimitri van Hauwaert as consultant to Steve Marnoch. Already recognised as a great Championship venue now holding the Dutch PGA event only one year after opening there is really something for everyone with an 18 hole golf course, a 9 hole compact course, along with a feature state-of-the-art driving range on three levels with 60 bays. The fascinating point of interest with Maastricht International Golf is that 13 holes are in The Netherlands with half the driving range and 5 holes in Belgium along with the other half of the driving range. You will play holes 1-7 in The Netherlands, into Belgium for holes 8-12 before re- entering The Netherlands with passport duly stamped to complete this unusual round of golf. There are many complexities within this extraordinary site: numerous public footpaths, historically used by the Romans; an archaeological site of international significance; The Heze Water which was a ditch between The Netherlands and Belgium which had to be reinstated despite it running uphill!; Heze Worms and other important species; a ski slope which had to be accommodated; a public swimming pool to protect and shield from golfers; an area of landfill over which we are not able to carry out any earthworks. Does it ever stop? No... there were of course different regulations for the amounts and depths/heights of excavation and filling in both Belgium and The Netherlands. A complex project but one which golfmarnoch completed successfully and to great acclaim "With Steve's landscape background an appreciation for the landscape and environment is an integral part of the work carried out. Consequently, a flexible design style that permits the site to play a large part in dictating the characteristics of the course was essential when designing a complex course like Maastricht International Golf. Whilst Steve thrives on design creativity he also recognizes that flair must be balanced with practicality and budgetary constraints. A true professional."
