Golf CLUB MANAGEMENT - FEBRUARY 2007Course construction buyer's guide Maastricht International Golf is a complex and unique golf course that is currently in construction. The design work has been carried out over several years, beginning in 2002 as a Gaunt & Marnoch project, with construction underway in 2006 and now being managed by Steve Marnoch of golfmarnoch working in conjunction with Diamond Golf Architects. This project has been many years on the drawing board and the permit stages have been complex due to the fact that the golf course straddles the international boundary between two countries. Maastricht International Golf has 13 holes and half the driving range in The Netherlands and five holes and the other half of the driving range in Belgium. The golf course facilities form part of a huge development for BPF Bouwinvest, including a hotel and housing complex, and a driving range and nine-hole compact course and with a budget in excess of one hundred million euros, this is a project with challenges that will still excite the most experienced of golf course architect. Due to open in May 2007 you can look forward to playing in The Netherlands on holes one to seven into Belgium for holes eight to 12 before returning to The Netherlands with passport duly stamped to complete the round, a claim that cannot be made by many golf courses. |
